You will begin preparing for your final project by selecting a social issue, finding a work of art that is connected to your social issue, and analyzing the work of art in relation to the social issue. The paper should be 1 – 2 pages, double-spaced.  Please make sure to include an image of the work of art you are analyzing.  In addition, make sure to include an introductory and concluding paragraph. Finally, you will have to reference sources outside of our text book in order to discuss the context of the work of art.  Any sources you reference should be correctly cited and in APA format.

Step 1: Select your social issue and one work of art.

Pick a social issue that interests you.  Then, consider all of the places you can go to find different works of art.  Find one work of art that is connected to your social issue in some way.  Please note:  you may create an original work of art instead of finding a work of art.   

Step 2: Analyze the work of art that you selected

Create an analysis of the work of art that you selected for your social issue.  The analysis for each piece should include:

An image of the work of art (make sure you cite the image correctly)

The name of the artist, title, medium, date it was created, and where it is located

An analysis of three elements of art or design principles

A discussion of one of the following questions:  

How do the elements of art, principles of design, and context impact what you believe the artist is communicating in this work of art?  Be sure to provide specific examples from the work in order to support your points.
