Jesus Christ entrusted and commanded to the disciples the task of spreading the gospel to and making disciples of all the nations. From their worldview perspective, this seemed like a daunting task of significant proportions. The spread of lawlessness and the acts of unrighteousness seemed too overwhelming to accomplish this commission. This holds true even 2,000 years later.

Sometimes, we may look around and think that it seems impossible or that evil is spreading and winning. Nevertheless, as we look back through history we can realize that his church is growing just as He said it would. Often times the growth seems slow and the fight seems intense with extreme persecution and opposition; while at other times, it seems major obstacles are overcome and the Gospel message spreads like a raging fire. The Old Testament serves as a faithful reminder that God fulfills all of his promises even in spite of our weaknesses and sometimes lack of faith: He was faithful to Israel so too He is still faithful. Therefore we must “fix our eyes on Jesus” and “run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12: 1-2). Christ has called us to a mission that requires personal sacrificial commitment: “You shall be my witnesses” (Acts 1:7). But as the Apostle Paul encouraged those in Philippi “[We] can do all things through Christ with strengthens [us]. (Phil 4:13). God has equipped each one of us to be servants and witnesses to the truth, and to spread that truth to the world. Therefore it is important for us to continually grow in the knowledge and understanding of the Lord Jesus. As we know the Lord, He impresses on our spirit the desires and motivations of his will for our life (Philippians 2:12-13). Then as we follow the leading of the Holy Spirit we can graciously, effectively, and boldly express our love for Him through service for Him.
