compounds, one of which should be a carboxylic acid, from which you could make
lidocaine. What type of reaction would these two compounds undergo in order to
form lidocaine? What is the other product of this reaction?
2.) Oseltamivir, more popularly known as Tamiflu, is a drug
used to treat influenza. It does so by binding to the active site of an enzyme
called neuraminidase (found on the surface of the influenza virus).
(i) Identify, which atoms or functional groups could be
involved in the binding of oseltamivir to the neuraminidase active site by:
– hydrogen bonding
– ionic interactions Only one example is required for each
type of interaction.
(ii) What complementary functional group would need to be
present in the neuraminidase active site for (a) hydrogen bondingand (b) ionic
interactions to oseltamivir to be observed? You need only give one example of a
functional group in the enzyme for each type of interaction.
