1. You’re watching a teacup suspended from a spring oscillate up
and down, since there’s nothing else to do at the moment.
a) Make up a reaonable frequency f, in Hz, for the oscillation,
and justify your choice.
b) Given this frequency, how many times will the teacup
momentarily stop moving if you watch it oscillate for a full
minute? Show all work and explain.
c) At the instant when the teacup reaches its highest point, you
deftly place a glob of clay inside the teacup without disturbing it
at all – both are at rest at this position. The teacup then
continues oscillating up and down, just now with the glob inside.
How do the amplitude and frequency of the spring, teacup, and glob
system compare to the amplitude and frequency of the former spring
and teacup system? Explain.
d) How does the total ME of the spring, teacup, and glob system
compare to the ME of the former spring and teacup system?
Explain.
Please be as clear as possible. Thank you for your help!!
