A company at a large corporation were discarding used printer
consumable items such as toners that equal to almost one ton on an
average day. To reduce the amount of waste at this large
corporation, a team of highly qualified floor administrators that
represented each floor and line of business within the office was
setup. This special team reviewed processes in other organizations
and developed action plans to implement the changes at their own
company. The company communicated to all employees news bulletins a
few months prior to launch of this new program of what the upcoming
changes would be and what they should expect as a result of this
outcome. Employees attended organized sessions that showed them how
to reduce waste by printing less, the use of recycled paper for
note taking, and the use of email communication instead of printing
off agendas needlessly. An email distribution list made of
employees that were well trained to answer any questions regarding
this program and the change itself was setup for existing employees
affected could rely upon. There were selected areas where used
toners could be placed, arrangements were made with a third party
company to properly recycle and reuse these used toners, and
methods were in place to use less printed material by using the
email system more frequently than before, and material that used to
be printed and distributed is now available on-line.
A) What strategies did the company use to minimize resistance to
change?
