A multi-unit seperation process has been disigned that separates
the four components. A,B,C, and D. The primary units include a
flash separator, a distillation, column, and an absorber column. A
liquid process feed containing 35.2 mol% A, 28.2 mol% C, and B and
D is sent directly to the flash separator. Two streams emerge from
the flash separator: a gas stream containing all of the A and B
(and no C or D) is sent to the absorption column; and a liquid
stream is sent to the distillation column. The distillation column
produces an overhead stream containing both C and D, and a botmm
stream containing 90% of the D fed to the distillation column and
some C. Analysis has shown that there is 13.5 times as much D as C
in the bottons. The gas stream from the flash separator is
contacted in the absorption column with a liquid stream that
contains solvent and some B (but nothing else). Two streams emerge
from the absorption column. The first stream is a gas product that
contains 96.2 mol% A and 3.8 mol% B, and which contains 1% of all
of the B fed to the absorption column. The second stream is a
liquid that contains S and B. Part of this liquid stream is removed
as a liquid product, while the rest is recycled to join with a
fresh solvent feed, Analysis of the liquid product reveals that its
composition is 91 mol% S and 9.0 mol% B. If the solvent recycle
ratio has been set to 9.00 mol S recycled/mol fresh S fed,
determine the composition (in mol%) of the overhead and the
recovery of B (in mol B recovered/mol B fed) achieved in the liquid
product.
