Discuss the unique challenges of decision making for incremental
innovation versus radical discontinuous innovation. Example #1 –
Philips over the years has dealt with incremental change from the
incandescent, to florescent, to LED light bulbs. Brainstorm about
some of the decisions they needed to make along the way. Example #2
– Apple completely changes the computer industry with it’s
introduction of the iPad, running essentially a smartphone
operating system developed for the iPhone. This was considered a
radical or discontinuous innovation. Again, what decisions did they
need to make. Did they see risk, and if they did, how did they
manage it?
