Hi, I have a transportation question that I am working to
resolve with linear programming. In the picture below of my
homework, I have derived most of the answer to this question except
for finishing the Objective Function (“Z”). I have most of the
objective function equation shown below. The problem asks the
student to find the transportation cost, shortage cost, and when
you subtract the two you get the final answer. Even though I can
get the answer in MS Excel (the solver program and the “sumproduct”
function was used to get to the answers I currently have in the
spreadsheet – as far as the book is concerned the answers are
correct), I am unsure of how to express the shortage part
mathematically. How would I place the shortage cost part of the
equation into my answer (“Z”)?
