In the following example regarding gene order via
co-transformation frequnecy I amhaving a hard time understanding
what the information actually means. I realize higher frequencies
result in closer linkage and closer distance between alleles,
however, I do not understand what the signifcance/relation is
between the observation of two different versions. For example, it
is my understanding that the percentages 3.00 and 0 are
co-transformation frequencies between his and leu, how can one of
them be 3 and the other be zero? is that not contradictory to
linkage?
donor : his+ leu+ lac+ recepient: his-leu- lac-
| Genotype of transformed cells | percentage of all cells |
| his+ leu+ lac+ | 0.02 |
| his+ leu+ lac- | 0* |
| his+ leu- lac+ | 2.00 |
| his+ leu- lac- | 4.00 |
| his- leu+ lac+ | .10 |
| his- leu- lac+ | 3.00* |
| his- leu + lac – | 1.50 |
