Quickset and Maxibond. Both epoxy cements use the same polymer
resin and amine activator. The difference is that Quickset uses a
greater ratio of activator to resin so that it sets more quickly.
Maxibond uses a smaller ratio so, while it doesn’t set as quickly,
it develops greater strength. The epoxy cements are packaged with
the resin and activator in separate containers which are combined
at the time of use to create the cured epoxy.
The raw materials available to the manufacturer for a week’s
production are 100 kg of resin and 80 kg of activator. To produce 1
kg of Quickset, you need 0.4 kg of resin and 0.6 kg of activator.
To produce 1 kg of Maxibond, you need 0.5 kg of resin and 0.5 kg of
activator. The demand for Quickset is 70 kg per week, while the
demand for Maxibond is 110 kg per week. The profit for Quickset is
$10/kg and the profit for Maxibond is $8/kg. What are the amounts
of Quickset and Maxibond the manufacturer should produce per week
to maximize profit?
