The data below will allow you to generate a map for 6 loci
(genes) each represented by a letter. There are 6 traits, but only
three traits were followed in each mating. The boxes below show the
offspring of four matings. For each mating, a triple homozygous
recessive mutant was crossed with a triple homozygous dominant
mutant. Then the resultant triply heterozygous F1s were crossed
with a triple homozygous recessive.

1) For each of
the four matings, write out the genotypes, and determine the locus
order and distances between the genes. Remember to use appropriate
units.
2) Make a map
showing the positions of all six genes and indicating the distances
between them.
3) Make a
series of drawings that show the process of meiosis to generate the
‘FUo’ and ‘fuO’ offspring of the mating on the left. You’ll need to
show a bivalent undergoing the double crossover.
4.) Redraw your chromosome map from the linkage
exercise here. Given a new set of phenotype numbers,
could you place additional genes on this chromosome? Could you
draw the chromosome at various stages of mitosis or
meiosis?
