Vigorous exercise is an excellent example of a situation where
multiple bodily functions need to be ramped up together in order to
ensure that the body gets what it needs in terms of glucose and
oxygen, and removes wastes that it does not want like carbon
dioxide. Two major physiological variables that are
affected by vigorous exercise are breathing/respiration
rate and blood pressure/MAP. Describe –as completely as possible
based on what we have described in class – how exercise causes
changes in these two factors (respiration rate and MAP).
To get full credit, you will need to describe both the
cause and the response to the physiological
variables being monitored and controlled. Your answer should
contain references to aspects of the heart, vasculature, blood,
respiratory system, and nervous system involved.
