After you have completed your
textbook readings, read the following scenario:
Let’s say that two military services
(Army and Marine Corps) have invested in the development of a communications
system that both services can use for military operations.
Seventy-five (75) percent of the
system will be used as is by both services – let’s call that the “Core
System”. The other 25% of the communications is “Service
Specific.” But sometimes, some of the “Service Specific”
design decisions that are made require changes to be made to the Core system. Before
changes can be made to the Core System – both the Army and the Marine Corps
system representatives have to agree to the changes – because each has to
determine if there are any negative impacts that change may make on their
version of the system.
1st – In your response address the
following questions and support your answers with your research and readings.
- What “configuration management” challenges do
you see in this scenario and what recommendations do you propose to meet
those challenges? - What are the risks if some type of configuration management
process is not put into place? How would you mitigate those risks? - What plans and procedures do you feel are needed so
that this “Joint” system implementation is not only successful
for both the Army and the Marine Corps – but for the maintenance of the
system once the implementation is completed? - What are the potential results if the Army version gets
out of sync with the Marine Corps version?
