The Pew internet and American
Life Project conduct surveys to gauge how the internet and technology impact
daily life of individuals, families and communities. In a recent survey Pew
asked respondents it they thought that computers and technology give people
more or less control over their lives. Companies that are involved in
innovative technologies use the survey results to better understand their
target market. One might suspect hat younger individuals would be more likely
to think that computes and technology give them more control over their lives
than older respondents. A subset of the data from this survey shows the mean
ages of two groups of respondents, those who reported that they believed that
computers and technology give them more control and those that reported less control.

The dean at a large university
in California wonders if students at the university study less than the 1961
national average of 24 hours per week. She randomly selects 35 student and asks
their average study time per week in hours. From their responses she calculates
a sample mean of 16.37 hours and a sample standard deviation of 7.22 hours. At
the 5% significance level what can you conclude?
A. Write
the null and alternative hypothesis
B. What is
the significance level?
C. Solve
for z value
D. Write
the decision rule
E. Accept
or Reject: Be Very Specific what you plan to do and why.
3.
An economist claims that
average weekly food expenditure of household in City 1 is more than that of
household in City 2. She surveys 35 households in City 1 and obtains an average
weekly food expenditure of $164.00. A sample of 30 households in City 2 yields
an average weekly food expenditure of $159. Historical data reveals that the
population standard deviation for City 1 and City 2 are $12.50 and $9.25,
respectively. At the 5% significance level, is the economist claim supported by
the data?
A. Write the
null and alternative hypothesis
B. What is
the significance level?
C. Solve
for z value
D. Write
the decision rule
E. Accept
or Reject: Be Very Specific what you plan to do and why.
4.
Huggers Polls contend that an
agent conducts a mean of 53 in-depth home survey’s every week. A streamlined
survey form has been introduced, and Hugger want to evaluate its effectives.

At
the .05 significance level can we conclude that the mean number of interviews
conducted by their agents is more than 53 per week?
A. Write
the null and alternative hypothesis
B. What is
the significance level?
C. Solve
for z value
D. Write

5. For a recent year, the mean fare to fly
from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Seattle, Washington, on a discount ticket
was $267. A random sample of round-trip discount fares on this route last month
